Hithertofore, we have been somewhat circumspect, that is to say, cagey, regarding posting a schedule of our future travel plans and inevitable travails. Our plans are fluid, to say the least, and have shifted repeatedly over the last year of our lives. Anything we may have told you in the last year or so is likely inaccurate. So, we thought we’d share our current plan with the proviso that it might change at any moment.
Yesterday, we left a friend’s house in Hudson, Wisconsin to cross Minnesota in search of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s heritage. We will travel across South Dakota, clip the corner of Wyoming, head north through Montana and land ourselves in Banff, Canada. Then, dramatically changing course, we will coast back down south through the parks of the four corner states on our way to San Diego for a black belt test in July. Another rebound follows as we have a family reunion departing for Alaska from Seattle the week thereafter.
Then, it’s goodbye to our covered wagon (mid-sized sedan), and plans get a bit sketchy. No reservations yet, but the thought is to fly to Asia and take refuge from the heat of summer in Vladivostok, Russia. The Trans-Siberian railway is our intended mode of travel, throughout Russia and into Mongolia. Where the Asian tour leads after that, we will have to wait for inspiration to lead!
We are open to—and frankly hoping for—guidance as we go. In particular, we would love advice and tips about what we should do and where we should go in Mongolia and eastern Russia. Post your suggestions below, thanks!
Vladivostok is like San Francisco with hills… you will enjoy. Make sure you do a city tour and go out to the new research University they built across a miraculous bridge on the edge of town. Learn about how they hosted a big APEC meeting there about 8 years ago? Learn about their tsunami warning system.. .they are one of our partners in the Pacific Tsunami Warning System. I will check on things in Mongolia – my friend and her young kids went by horseback to visit some really remote tribes there. Maybe you would be interested in that?
Great stuff. Yes! We would definitely be interested in that, thanks!
We’ve been researching Mongolia quite a bit, as we plan to travel there next year (July 2020) for the Naadam Festival. I also have a great POC in Mongolia, who I went to grad school with. He’s been a great help. I’ll reach out via FB to fill you in a bit more!
That would be amazing, thank you!
